Default Curious question about PVE rangers.

Whenever I play with rangers in PVE (guildmates not pugs), I wonder why they don't bring save yourself. After all, with skills like volley and barrage won't they build adrenaline incredibly fast? I mean they obviously won't do it as well as a paragon or a warrior, but when those two aren't available, I figure that with a 4 second save yourself, they should be able to recharge it in 4-5 seconds tops.

Well, most rangers wouldn't want to switch to a secondary warrior for just that one skill. I'm sure some are ok with it, but I would expect a warrior to be more likely to carry this skill.

Plus, most warriors have no problem gaining adr. with all the adr. boosting skills that warrior has to offer.

Because most Barrage rangers are bad. I'm assuming they're /Mo for Rebirth?

Fair enough about barrage. It is bad nowadays, espicially with volley out there. But then volley? That could build up adren pretty fast too.

And my point is, yes, warriors will be better, but one might not be on hand, and SY is ALWAYS appreciated.

Most of our rangers won't change out of /mo because of mending touch.(and rebirth)
Although, I can't think of anyone in the guild I have seen running barrage lately. Mostly BHA and BA in pve.

You misunderstood what alex said. Most barrage rangers are bad, not barrage itself. It was boosted when they nerfed splinter so it deals decent damage now. Sure there are tons of better elites but IF you need SY, then barrage is your best bet.

Anyway I never used SY on ranger, must be hella boring

barrage was always bad. was made better with the damage buff but still not worth using over other elites.

Barrage IMO is really only good for situations such as Tombs of the Primeval Kings and any place where there damage on more than one target at one time would be really needed. Barrage doesn't do enough damage for one Ranger on their own to really make a huge difference but it is nice damage support when backed Splinter Wep, and other professions' AoE's and/or another Ranger with Barrage.

In my experience, anything under 14 Marksmanship just doesn't sit well for that elite. Even then, in situations other than the ones I suggested, there are indeed better elites.

And I never thought about Save Yourself. I haven't ran a R/W since noob days lol. I run several different builds I made myself for the most part, and personally can't stand the /Mo crap. But I might give your idea a test run.

In pve foe tend to stick together so barrage is good on top of being cheap and easelly spamable. I use it with volley and Drunken Master on a vamp recurved bow, that +45 HP every every 3.2 sec at lvl 8 Deldrimor rep. But understand here that i aways go out with a full team of casting heroes and henchies and i play as a tank. I use stance to avoid dmg and i rarelly die.

I never go as R/Mo unless i wanna cap a monk elite. The sec prof i use always depends on where i am. If i do Shard of Orr I'll go as dervish for Heart of the Holy Flame and i get to see lots of +100 yellow numbers.

As for "Save Yourselves!" and "Watch Yourself!" they look pretty interesting for the team i run. I never tried them yet but im sure gonna give it a go today. thanks for the tip.

Edit: But as with every other skills the use of barrage is situationnal. If you see it in pvp be nice with the "first timer" and give him/her advice.

I prefer using Splinter Weapon on a hero w/ me running Volley, BHA and Epedemic.

SY on a Ranger isn't really effective, and i've tried it before.

I often run Infuriating Heat, Volley and "Save Yourselves!". Paired with Paras and Warriors it works quiet well.

If you are paired with warriors and paras, why do YOU need SY?

He means Adrenaline boost for Warriors and Paragons too, assuming they're h/h.

I thought rangers dont build up adren. with bow attacks as they arnt classed as melee...so therefore the only way a ranger could build adren. is by being hit..which isnt good...

So wouldnt that mean SY becomes redundent?

My Paragon disagrees.
Last time I checked Paragon = Midline.

@Kel - You, the bane of bad alliances?! *chuckles*

You gain adrenaline IF you have an adrenal skill that isn't recharging on your bar.

I personally don't do it because I bring epidemic for Broadhead Arrow, mainly because the AI aren't bright enough to do it on their own. Afterall, HM is just plain hard without massive shutdown of casters.
